I don’t consider Google an /evil/ company, it is rather better than most huge companies. I just don’t fancy being one of their costumers.

I agree – and honestly, a lot of their more recent moves (converting stock to non-voting) makes me less worried about them as a whole.

When I found out that I could connect with GTalk users via jabber.org, I went that route.

My understanding is one could do cyanogen + replicant store and have almost FaiF and no google. But can’t test it myself since no device…

Just deleted the majority of the photo albums I had at picasa and cancelled the auto-renew of the google storage that I had. !degoogle

Finally closed my #GPlus account. Somehow, #Google also gave me #YouTube and #PicasaWeb accounts that I never requested and can’t close.

Babelfish works decently for strict dictionary translation, but it doesn’t pick up nearly so well on colloquialisms/nuances of grammar.

@jpope zimbra is excellent, and appropriate for enterprise. Our uni has 17,000 students. Zimbra has served very well. :)

@jpope I’m hopeful about owncloud 3, & if the cal has repeating events, may try using rasberrypi as dedicated calendar server.

@paulbooker you can switch that macbook, that’s what i did with my 2006 macbook in 2007 and never went back (course I broke that macbook by mistake) you can make the jump again have you opened a diaspora account? For email as a member of mayfirst.org email is a benefit

@paulbooker it’s well worth it :) I was able to get a graphic designer to install linuxmint with inkscape and gimp and he has not been bothered to boot windows anymore
